What we mean by Engagement practice

Engagement practice refers to any approach, process or method that enables people to:

  • share their views
  • contribute opinions
  • participate in shaping decisions and changes in health and social care services

What the service provides

We help teams lead meaningful engagement and improvement by offering expert coaching, strategic input, and peer learning.

  • Community engagement advice and coaching. Tailored guidance to design inclusive engagement with people who access services, families, carers, and communities.
  • Improving care experience advice and coaching. Support to embed lived experience and person-centred approaches into your improvement work.
  • Engagement planning. Strategic guidance to align engagement activities with change goals.
  • Tools and methods coaching. Practical support on proven techniques for high-quality engagement.
  • Reflective support sessions. Facilitated time to reflect, challenge assumptions and strengthen your approach.
  • Workshops and training. Tailored learning experiences helping to build engagement skills and confidence across your team.
  • Access to the Engagement Practice Learning and Improvement System. Engagement resources, tools and peer networks that support learning and improvement.

What the service doesn’t offer

  • To join groups as members. We’re here to advise, support and build confidence in engagement practice. We don’t join ongoing engagement or improvement groups as members
  • To deliver on your behalf. We’re here to help you design and plan engagement activities, and we can coach teams to deliver them confidently. However, we don’t lead or carry out engagement activities for other organisations, and we’re not able to fill capacity gaps

We’re here as a partner, coach and sounding board, equipping you with the tools, confidence, and insight to lead impactful engagement in your improvement work.
