Our aim is to give people confidence in the quality and safety of NHS and independent healthcare services.
We focus on things that matter most to people using services, their families and carers. We do this through independent assurance work like inspections, regulation and reviews. Our work encourages improvement in the quality of health and social care.

Our Quality Assurance and Regulation Plan is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Integrated Delivery Plan. It sets out our planned activities for inspection, regulation and reviews in 2025-26. The plan undergoes regular reviews and may change if new assurance priorities arise.
Our quality assurance work is split into three categories:
- inspections
- regulation
- reviews (including ad hoc investigations)
