The Essentials of Safe Care in action – a people-led approach to achieving safe care

Aims of session

  • provide a national platform for colleagues to connect, share learning and build knowledge to support ongoing improvements in safety
  • increase understanding of the Essentials of Safe Care in implementation
  • explore why having a people-led approach is critical to the planning and delivery of safe care

Programme overview

The morning plenary session will include a keynote address by speaker, Marleen Kunneman, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Leiden University Medical Center, Netherlands and Mayo Clinic (USA).

Virtual attendance

Virtual places are unlimited, please share the link with colleagues who may be interested

Delegates have the opportunity to attend the full morning plenary session virtually. This year we are offering a separate afternoon workshop for those attending virtually – “Being people-led in planning and delivering safe care”

In-person attendance

In-person places are limited and allocated to NHS boards.


Learning outcomes

Participants will gain:

  • understanding and knowledge of the Essentials of Safe Care and why a people-led approach is key to the planning and delivery of safe care
  • greater confidence and increased awareness of how to apply people-led approaches within their own practice
  • enhanced connections between peers and experts within the field of quality and safety, enabling the exchange of insights, learning, successes, challenges, along with national and system-wide trends
