Each NHS board has received an allocation of in-person places for this event. If you would like to attend in person, please coordinate this through the SPSP lead within your board.

Event aims
The aims of the event are to:
- provide a national platform for colleagues to connect, share learning and build knowledge to support ongoing improvements in safety
- introduce the next phase of SPSP Essentials of Safe Care
- build a shared understanding of how the SPSP Essentials of Safe Care may be applied across a range of settings to support the safe delivery of care
This event will be run as a fully hybrid event. This gives delegates the option to attend in person or access the event online.
Agenda
The morning plenary welcomes Dr Suzette Woodward, who will present on “Creating a Culture of Safety”. Dr Woodward is a former paediatric intensive care nurse who is now an author and visiting professor at Imperial College. She is also a patient safety consultant, working in the UK and internationally.
The next phase of SPSP Essentials of Safe Care 2025 will be launched during the morning plenary.
The afternoon session will offer a range of hybrid breakouts focused on how the SPSP Essentials of Safe Care may be practically applied into programmes of work. Delegates will have the opportunity to register to attend one of the breakout sessions below.
- Continuous improvement to embed the SPSP Essentials of Safe Care within adults in hospital
- SPSP Perinatal and Paediatric approach to the SPSP Essentials of Safe Care
- Applying the new SPSP Essentials of Safe Care within SPSP Mental Health
Attendees will have the opportunity to network and browse examples of safety improvement work during our dedicated lunchtime networking poster session.
Event learning outcomes
Attendees can expect to:
- gain a clear understanding of the 2025 SPSP Essentials of Safe Care and supporting resources
- consider how the SPSP Essentials of Safe Care may be embedded across systems and SPSP programmes
- share insights, successes and challenges and gain expert knowledge from the system whilst exploring SPSP work from across Scotland.
