By inspecting care we help to ensure that NHS healthcare services are:
- meeting the required standards of care
- good practice is identified
- areas for improvement are addressed
Our inspectors undertake announced and unannounced inspections of healthcare services. These will involve a physical inspection of the clinical areas, and discussions with staff.
We currently have three inspection programmes:
- inspections of acute hospitals
- inspection of mental health units
- inspection of maternity units
Our first Safe Delivery of Care – Acute hospitals national overview report is now available. It highlights the key findings from the Safe Delivery of care inspections programme.
