SPSP Adults in Hospital – Deteriorating Patient change package

This publication is the latest version of the SPSP Deteriorating Patient change package. It is an evidence-informed resource designed to support teams to improve the early recognition and structured response to patient deterioration.

The package includes:

  • A driver diagram, including a national aim, primary and secondary drivers
  • Change ideas providing practical actions that teams can test and implement
  • Tools, resources and signposting to supporting evidence
  • A measurement framework that outlines outcome, process and balancing measures, and provides guidance on data collection and reporting

This resource was co-designed with clinical and quality improvement experts from NHS boards. The clinical experts were from a range of disciplines and the content considers the SIGN 167 Care of deteriorating patients (2023).

You can see the downloadable version of the Deteriorating Patient change package on our website.
