What the toolkit is
The Mental Health Renewal Programme Personality Disorder toolkit for change aims to support Scottish boards and Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) working in complex mental health to:
- understand current practice
- make the case for service development
- strengthen data and evaluation use
- involve staff and people with lived and living experience
The toolkit draws mainly on learning from the Personality Disorder Improvement Programme (PDIP) and the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) programme. Although these do not cover all complex mental health conditions, the resources can be adapted for use across a range of mental health services. They also highlight practical ways services can work differently, including staff development, evaluation, and involving people with lived and living experience.
The toolkit is not intended to prescribe a fixed or linear approach, but to showcase current practice in services supporting people with complex needs. This is the first iteration of the toolkit, and the aim is to expand it over time. Contributions from other services working with people with complex mental health needs are welcomed for future inclusion.
If you would like your work included in the toolkit, please contact our team at his.transformationalchangementalhealth@nhs.scot
Who the toolkit is for and how it is structured
This resource is for staff and teams supporting people with complex mental health conditions and is aligned with the Scottish Approach to Change.
The Scottish Approach to Change provides a clear framework and an iterative process for delivering effective and sustainable improvements across health and social care. The top line of the graphic below shows the steps of the Scottish Approach to Change, with the bottom line showing how the toolkit for change maps to these.
