The Excellence in Care (EiC) framework will support staff to deliver high-quality and person-centred care.
EiC Framework 2026
We updated the framework in June 2026. We made changes after engaging with key stakeholders and reviewing the latest research.
The framework includes the 16 elements. The elements are based on the four core principles of:
- compassion
- communication
- person-centred care
- fundamentals of care
This updated version uses clearer language so teams can use it easily in their daily work.
The framework now links with other relevant national programmes to help teams work together in a more joined-up way.
It also includes a wider range of professional groups beyond nursing and midwifery, so it is more relevant for healthcare teams across Scotland.
