We worked with NHS Education Scotland to develop the Leading Excellence in Care (LEiC) Education and Development Framework.
The framework
It is designed to support leadership development across:
- nursing
- midwifery
- allied health professions
We launched the framework in November 2023. It is as an online resource. It helps leaders:
- reflect on their skills
- plan their development
- support high‑quality, person‑centred care
Evaluation report
We carried out an evaluation of the framework. We wanted to understand:
- how the resource is being used
- whether it is helping leaders learn, grow and improve practice
The evaluation looked at:
- website usage data
- survey responses
- interviews
- feedback from health boards and national stakeholders
Findings show strong overall interest in the framework, with it being used in a variety of ways across boards and professional groups. Many leaders value the framework as a tool for reflection, confidence‑building and supporting staff wellbeing.
The review also highlighted barriers. These included:
- limited time and capacity
- opportunities to improve visibility, usability and inclusion of all professional groups
