On Wednesday 20 May, our Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) team held a webinar focusing on how they involve members of the public in their work.

This webinar explored how people contribute to guideline development, including:

  • people with lived experience
  • carers
  • third sector representatives
  • members of the public

Case studies were used to show how lived experience and third sector perspectives:

  • inform guideline questions
  • shape recommendations
  • help ensure guidelines reflect what matters most to people

The session also highlighted the impact of patient and public involvement (PPI) in making SIGN guidelines more person centred, relevant and meaningful for those who use services and those who deliver care across NHS Scotland.
