Strategic gap analysis
A tool that helps you find what is missing. It looks at where you are now and where you want to be. 
Three horizons
A tool that helps build a long-term vision for a system and the steps required to get there.
Comment cards
An overview of an approach that helps service users to write down and post their thoughts and feedback.

Step of change: Understand

Journey mapping
A visualisation tool that helps you understand users’ needs, emotions, challenges and opportunities.
Mapping your system
A tool that helps to give you an overview of a system and how the parts interrelate to form the whole.
Last 10 patients
A tool to help you identify variation in journey times using patient information (available on TURAS Learn).

Step of change: Develop and design

Driver diagrams
A tool that helps to show you the plan for reaching an improvement goal (available on TURAS Learn).
Options appraisal
A guide that helps you make decisions. It takes people through each stage of a proposed process.
How might we statements
A tool that helps turn insights into opportunities for design and explore solutions.

Step of change: Prototype and test

Plan, do, study, act (PDSA)
A tool that helps to test an idea by trialing a change and assessing its impact (available on TURAS Learn).
Lessons learned logs
A tool that helps capture knowledge about what has worked well and what could have gone differently. 
Idea generation
A process that helps explore and test solutions, and find out what works best before deciding.

Step of change: Review for implementation

After action review
A process used by teams to reflect on what happened, why it happened, and how to improve for the future.
6 Hats
A technique that helps improve decision-making by considering multiple perspectives (available through the de Bono Group).

Implementation checklist

Measurement plan
A tool that helps define the measures proposed for a project (available on TURAS Learn).
Ethical commissioning
A process to bring together public, third and independent sectors to work in partnership.

Step of change: Embed and sustain

Action learning sets
A tool that helps tackle real problems or issues, through reflecting and learning with people, from their experience and from each other (available on TURAS Learn).
Knowledge mobilisation
A knowledge mobilisation toolkit to help share knowledge in an organisation (available through NHS England).
Communities of practice
A tool which demonstrates how a group of individuals who share a common interest or profession engage in community learning (available on TURAS Learn).

A tool which takes you through five questions to help you spread improvement (available on TURAS Learn).
Readiness for spread
A tool that helps show you if a project aligns with the scale-up model (available on TURAS Learn).
Communications toolkit
A toolkit to increase your understanding and use of communications to plan better, implement and spread your work (available through the Health Foundation).
