Summary

We carried out an unannounced follow-up inspection to University Hospital Crosshouse, NHS Ayrshire and Arran between 3 – 5 July 2023 using our safe delivery of care inspection methodology.

During our inspection, we:

  • inspected the ward and hospital environment
  • observed staff practice and interactions with patients, such as during patient mealtimes
  • spoke with patients, visitors and ward staff
  • accessed patients’ health records, monitoring reports, policies and procedures

Our findings

This follow-up inspection resulted in six areas of good practice, one recommendation and eight requirements.

“During our follow up inspection of University Hospital Crosshouse, we saw an open and supportive culture. Staff were focused on the provision of safe and compassionate care. We found similar levels of care during our inspection of University Hospital Ayr where all areas inspected were calm and well organised. Patients, again, were complementary about their care. On completion of both these inspections we are assured of the progress NHS Ayrshire and Arran has made.”
