Summary

We carried out an unannounced inspection to Queen Margaret Hospital and Whyteman’s Brae Hospital, NHS Fife on Wednesday 8 February 2023.

During our inspection, we:

  • inspected the ward and hospital environment
  • observed staff practice and interactions with patients, such as during patient mealtimes
  • spoke with patients, visitors and ward staff
  • accessed patients’ health records monitoring reports, policies and procedures

Our findings

This inspection resulted in three areas of good practice, seven requirements and two recommendations.

“We found good levels of compliance with standard infection control precautions in the majority of areas inspected. The environment was generally clean and staff reported that they felt well supported and patients and visitors told us they were happy with cleanliness. However, the fabric of the building was in a poor state of repair in some areas and requirements have been given to support improvement.”
