On Thursday 2 November, our Mental Health and Substance Use team hosted an online clinical network webinar. This webinar focused on Presentations of Concern Personality Disorder with Concurrent Substance Use and explored:

  • the shift from ICD-10 TO ICD-11 in describing personality disorders, highlighting changes and the overlap between complex PTSD and personality disorders
  • the stigma associated with this, and the importance of the need for personalised approaches, collaboration, and focused interventions

Healthcare Improvement Scotland gave an overview of ongoing work that is being done to explore the current provisions and access to services for those with a diagnosis of personality disorder. Five key areas of concern have been identified which emphasise:

  • trauma-informed responses
  • non-stigmatised care
  • a whole-person approach
  • peer support

Recommendations for Phase 2 include:

  • third-sector involvement
  • a data measurement framework
  • collaboration with pathfinder sites to develop pathways
