On Wednesday 24 September, our Mental Health and Substance Use team hosted an online national learning webinar. This webinar explored options appraisals and presented examples of different models of care for supporting people with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.

There were ideas about how an options appraisal can help you make informed decisions, and act as a framework for stakeholder engagement. Discussions also included how you might think through different ways of delivering support.

An options appraisal can:

  • define different models of care and services
  • compare and assess these models against criteria based on available evidence
  • provide a framework for decision making at the local level

People who took part in the webinar shared some helpful ideas you might want to think about:

  • pursue integrated working between mental health and substance use services
  • consider blended models which incorporate further third sector involvement
