Summary

We carried out an unannounced inspection to Inverclyde Royal Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October 2022 using our safe delivery of care inspection methodology.

During our inspection, we:

  • inspected the ward and hospital environment
  • observed staff practice and interactions with patients, such as during patient mealtimes
  • spoke with patients, visitors and ward staff
  • accessed patients’ health records, monitoring reports, policies and procedures.

Our findings

This inspection resulted in 10 areas of good practice and six requirements.

“The majority of patients appeared to be treated with kindness and compassion. There was good leadership directing and supporting the staff teams in many areas. Moreover, the majority of patients we spoke with described the care they received as good, with high admiration for the staff delivering their care. However, we found several areas where the environment was in a poor state of repair and not well maintained. We also raised a concern relating to some ward doors being locked, restricting patient and visitor exit.”
