Summary

We carried out an unannounced inspection to Gartnavel General Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 May 2023 using our safe delivery of care inspection methodology.

During our inspection, we:

  • inspected the ward and hospital environment
  • observed staff practice and interactions with patients, such as during patient mealtimes
  • spoke with patients, visitors and ward staff
  • accessed patients’ health records, monitoring reports, policies and procedures.

Our findings

This inspection resulted in six areas of good practice, one recommendation and three requirements.

“We observed an open and supportive culture. Wards were well managed and patients we spoke to described good and responsive levels of care. Staff treated them with respect, dignity and compassion. Areas for improvement included hand hygiene, safe storage and administration of medicines and the safe storage of cleaning products.”
