Our process for reviewing a sudden unexpected death in infancy.
Role of professionals
Many professionals will come across a SUDI once in their career.
Usually the Scottish Ambulance Service or Emergency Department will inform Police Scotland of a death.
In some cases the police may be first on the scene and will ask for Scottish Ambulance Service support.
Investigations
Investigations which include a post-mortem examination may take several months. An investigation begins with gathering information from parents, health workers and police.
A SUDI review can take place after the following investigations are complete:
- post mortem
- police investigation
- Procurator Fiscal investigation
