Joint inspection of services for children and young people

We support the inspection of care services for children of young people in Scotland.

Summary

This work is led by the Care Inspectorate with the following scrutiny partners:

  • Healthcare Improvement Scotland
  • Education Scotland
  • Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland

We have developed a revised inspection model to look at services for children and young people in need of care and protection.

This model takes account of the experiences and outcomes of these children and young people.

Our inspections look at the services provided for children by community planning partnerships in each of Scotland’s 32 local authorities.

This includes the work of:

  • health visitors
  • school nurses
  • teachers,
  • doctors
  • social workers
  • police officers
  • other people who work with the children, young people and their families

Inspection reports

After an inspection, a report is published on the Care Inspectorate’s website. This report is based on what the team found during the inspection process.

The report sets out:

  • what works well
  • what could be improved

The community planning partnership is expected to take action on any recommendations made for improvement.

You can access all the published reports on the Care Inspectorate’s website.
