The Healthcare Staffing Programme is supporting the enactment of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019.
The legislation
The Health & Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 will take effect in April 2024. Under the act, NHS Scotland boards will be legally required to be appropriately staff. This is in order to provide safe, high quality care. This aims to improve outcomes for service users, and put patient safety at the fore.
The Scottish Government has published an overview of the act. This overview will inform health and care staff of their responsibilities.
The overview also includes guidance on Roles in scope of the Act in health and Ccare services.
Stakeholder involvement will be key to ensuring the effective application of the legislation. The Healthcare Staffing Programme will continue to provide health boards with tailored support. It will support boards in the preparations and lead up to the implementation of the act.
