Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG)

Summary

We work with NHS boards to improve the use of antibiotics in a range of health and care settings.

Bacteria are becoming resistant to treatment with antibiotics. This is a major global public health issue. Without effective antibiotics, many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous.

We help NHS Scotland monitor and make the best use of antibiotics to:

  • ensure the best results for patients
  • reduce harm to both patients and wider society
  • reduce waste
  • reduce variation in practice
