Two colleagues from Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to international guideline development.

Roberta James, Programme Lead at SIGN, and Duncan Service, Evidence Manager at SIGN and Employee Director at Healthcare Improvement Scotland, have become Fellows of the Guidelines International Network (GIN).

GIN promotes excellence in evidence-based guideline development and implementation around the world. Fellowship recognises individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field and to the international guideline community.

Roberta has more than 20 years’ experience in evidence-based guideline development. Her contribution to GIN has been substantial and sustained. She joined the Board of Trustees in September 2020, served as Vice-Chair, and was elected Chair in September 2025.

As Chair, Roberta is committed to building a closer relationship between the Board of Trustees and GIN’s Working Groups, helping align their projects with the GIN strategy and the evolving needs of members.

She currently leads work to ensure guidelines remain rigorous, relevant and accessible.
