We returned to Perth Royal Infirmary in February 2026 to carry out an unannounced follow-up inspection. We assessed progress on NHS Tayside’s improvement action plan from the last inspection.

During our follow-up inspection, we revisited several of the areas previously inspected to provide assurance of improvement within these areas. We also included a broad range of specialties to help us to understand the extent of any wider improvements across the hospital.

We inspected the following areas:

  • accident and emergency department
  • ward 1
  • ward 3
  • ward 6
  • ward 7
  • ward 8
  • Tay ward
  • stroke unit

Our findings

The follow up inspection resulted in one recommendation, six new or updated requirements, and one requirement carried forward.
