On Tuesday 16 December 2025, the Delayed Discharge Improvement Programme launched the national learning system for Mental Health, Learning disabilities and Adults with Incapacity.

The webinar, intended for professionals involved in managing delayed discharged within mental health, learning disabilities and adults with incapacity covered:

  • resources and learning from Phase 1 across mental health, learning disabilities and adults with incapacity
  • an overview of the next steps, planned activity and outcomes for Phase 2 of the programme
  • sharing of practice around reducing delayed discharge and improving patient flow across mental health, learning disabilities and adults with incapacity services.

People who took part in the webinar shared some helpful ideas you might want to think about:

  • Look at ways to put the learning into practice and share ideas with teams.
  • Make changes in wards to improve patient flow.
  • Support national work by focusing on early identification of PDD, robust discharge planning, and accurate recording in inpatient wards.
  • Continue close working with discharge coordinators and strengthen joint working.
  • Understand wider team and regional challenges and consider solutions for reducing delayed discharges.
