Summary
The MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) Standards were developed to help reduce drug-related harm, including drug-related deaths. Their aim is to make treatment and support available more quickly for people who use drugs.
The standards also give people more choice and improve links between services and organisations. This joined-up approach is part of the Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC), which puts the person at the centre of their care and support.
The involvement of key stakeholders is central to the programme. This includes people with Lived and Living Experience (LLE), as well as family members and carers. Their views and experiences help shape the programme. This ensures that engagement is meaningful, co-produced, person-centred, and trauma-informed.
