Review for spread

Why do it

In the steps of change, the change has focused on a specific area or group of people. It is important to consider how suitable spreading the change is.

We need to consider whether something should be spread, and what about the idea should be spread? Without this consideration, you risk trying to implement a change or an approach in a context that won’t work.

What is it

When you review the spread, remember these points. They can help you find key insights for changes in new areas:

  • did the change work? Did it achieve good outcomes?
  • is it something that you would want to spread? Or does it only work in the current context?
  • if you do want to spread this is it the model or change that you want to spread? Or is it the approach you took to get to the idea?
  • how might you spread the idea or approach?

Who might you involve

It can be helpful to think about who you might need to involve or get help from during this step.

Think about:

  • what skills, knowledge, and experience do you need?
  • what roles and responsibilities do you need in the room to think together and make decisions
  • who might you need to support your work to get agreement?

The skills and professions you might need to have involved in the change include:

  • health and social care clinicians and professionals
  • people with lived experience
  • third and independent sector staff
  • support staff (like data analysts, project managers, service designers, quality improvers, engagement experts, strategic planners, and organisational development professionals)

Practical support

Project management is not needed at this step, as this would be the point you then start a new project. In addition, you can access further practical support below.
