Media Release: Inspection Report for Victoria Hospital, NHS Fife
Healthcare Improvement Scotland today (Thursday 13 March) published a report relating to an unannounced follow-up inspection visit to Victoria Hospital, NHS Fife. The inspection took place on 3 – 5 December 2024.
We carried out an unannounced inspection at Victoria Hospital from 31 July to 2 August 2023, where significant concerns were raised in relation to patient safety and maintenance of the hospital environment. On 14 August 2023 we carried out an unannounced return visit to establish if the significant concerns raised had been addressed.
The purpose of the follow-up inspection in December 2024 was to assess the progress that has been made within the NHS Fife improvement action plan.
Speaking of the reports, Donna Maclean, Chief Inspector, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, said:
“During this follow-up inspection we have been assured that progress has been made by NHS Fife with all requirements relating to maintenance of the healthcare environment being met or partially met.
“Patients and relatives were complimentary about their care and the staff providing it. The areas inspected were calm and well-led with hospital teams working together to provide compassionate care.
“The majority of staff we spoke with described Victoria Hospital as a good place to work, with a supportive and visible senior management team.
“However, further improvement is required in relation to maintaining patient dignity, hand hygiene, patient documentation, fire training compliance, the safe storage of cleaning products, and the safe management of waste.”
Chief Inspector, Healthcare Improvement Scotland
This follow-up inspection resulted in nine areas of good practice, one recommendation and 12 requirements.
An improvement action plan has been developed by NHS Fife in order to meet the requirements.
